TAFEL TANZ 2004
Zelttheater Festival Schanzenpark, Hamburg
100% Hamburg - OFF - Festival Hamburg

Who doesn’t know this feeling? A special scent coming from the kitchen that suddenly brings back memories — of past times, places, or people. Smells carry stories within them and are deeply connected to emotion, intimacy, and remembrance. Food is about pleasure, sensuality, and togetherness, but it also speaks of culture, origin, and identity.
Many things that come from distant countries are often described as “exotic”: spices, ingredients, dishes — and even women. But what kinds of images and stereotypes are hidden behind the idea of the “exotic” woman?
In her performance, Yolanda Gutiérrez combines live cooking with personal stories of homeland and foreignness. Drawing from her own biography, she reflects on questions of migration, identity, and cultural perception in contemporary Germany. Through aromas, taste, and storytelling, she creates a sensory space that invites reflection and exchange.
The performance is followed by a discussion with the audience and the opportunity to taste the prepared dish together. Bon appétit!
