Theater school project with Stadtteilschule am Hafen (Standort Neustadt) with the 9. Class from the theatre course -course teacher Melanie Hanzsen-
Despite the many pedagogical concepts in discussion, activity space for young people in the adult world is extremely constricted. Therefore Mexican choreographer Yolanda Gutiérrez has founded a SUPERHERO ACADEMY with two performance classes from the Schule am Hafen (Standort Neustadt). The pupils invented their own heroes, made costumes and produced videos. Professional wrestler Karsten Kretschmer trained them in the ring and made them sweat. Now the youngest generation of superheroes is lining up to take over the world! With this project emerges action space for young people, in which they can actively participate in a process of change, beginning with the theatrical reality.

Germany’s largest press agency DAPD published an article on the cooperation between Karsten Kretschmer, Nadine Jessen and Yolanda Gutiérrez on December 2nd, 2010.
… Since about a month Kretschmer and Gutiérrez have been visiting the comprehensive school “Gesamtschule am Hafen (Standort Neustadt)”. The school is considered as being problematic especially since May of this year a 16-year old student, together with his gang, supposedly stabbed an 18-year old. According to Kretschmer, the “Superhero Academy” project helps youngsters to reduce aggressions. “In the beginning I was reluctant but by now I’m really proud of the boys and girls.” This Friday for the first time, the youngsters will show at the Kampnagel theatre what they have learnt… DAPD ©.
